Construction starting soon on Deception Bay Road Intersection Upgrades Main Image

By Chris Whiting

21 August 2026

Great news for Deception Bay locals — construction commences soon on the upgrades to the Market Square intersection.

Project Update

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will start construction soon on safety improvements at the intersection of Deception Bay Road, Bay Avenue and Moreton Downs Drive, Deception Bay.

This intersection is a busy local junction with high traffic volume and pedestrian activity.

These works will provide clearer traffic movements and safer, more direct crossing points for pedestrians, helping to reduce the risk of crashes and improve safety for all road users.

What they’re doing:

  • removing the existing left-turn slip lanes and traffic islands
  • installing signalised left-turn lanes
  • installing signalised pedestrian crossings on all legs of the intersection
  • extending the right-turn lanes on Deception Bay Road
  • installing an off-road bike path northbound on Deception Bay Road south of the intersection.

What to expect

  • Works are scheduled to start in mid-September, 2026.
  • Works will be carried out at night, Sunday to Thursday, between 7pm and 5am. Some day and weekend work may be required on occasion.
  • Pedestrian and business access will be maintained, with temporary arrangements in place as required.
  • Traffic management measures will be in place, with reduced speed limits, construction signage and traffic control.
  • Some temporary road closures on nearby streets will occur as part of these works. In these instances, signed detours will be in place.
  • Nearby residents may experience noise, vibration, light and dust from construction activities.
