The Queensland Labor team has tonight voted against the LNP Crisafulli Government’s unworkable e-mobility legislation that has been overwhelmingly panned by stakeholders.
The Crisafulli LNP Government has ignored Queenslanders to rush through complex and botched amendments to avoid further scrutiny and proper process to tick a box and move on.
Before voting down the laws, the Opposition unsuccessfully attempted to refer the legislation back to a committee to undergo proper scrutiny given the Bill was littered with track-changes.
Transport Minister Brent Mickelberg has refused to listen to feedback from industry groups, tourism operators and Queensland communities over concerns around changes to speed limits, enforcement and licencing.
Queensland’s thin blue line could come under further strain by having to enforce the footpaths as well as the roads as Queensland stares down its highest road toll in years.

"Rather than addressing genuine safety concerns, this legislation punishes responsible Queenslanders, restricts lawful use of e-mobility devices and leaves untouched the very real dangerous behaviours scaring our communities.
“Queensland police warned that enforcement of e-mobility use is highly resource intensive and difficult to sustain, and the increased enforcement measures in this legislation will only add to this.
“At a time when Queenslanders are already struggling with rising living costs and fuel prices and trains that do not come, affordable transport options matter now more than ever.
“This legislation will create serious barriers to the use of e-mobility devices, introduce layers of bureaucratic red tape for current riders and serious economic flow-on effects proving once again this government is all talk and no action when it comes to listening to the experts.
“It is one of the worst legislative processes we've seen in years, and this Government still haven't got it right.
“This is yet another example of the Crisafulli LNP Government rushing to another photo op instead of doing the work required to get this right.”
